The Georgia Department of Transportation (Georgia DOT) has announced the upcoming opening of the new Kimball Bridge Road bridge over State Route (SR) 400 in Alpharetta on May 8, 2024, weather permitting. The project, which began on May 8, 2023, is set to be completed on schedule within the year designated for construction.

The new bridge, which will feature a raised profile, a multiuse path, a sidewalk, and two additional lanes with a raised median, aims to enhance transportation infrastructure in the area. As the opening day approaches, final construction activities such as roadway striping, installation of decorative fencing and pavers, and general clean-up will be completed in the coming weeks.

In light of the developments, Georgia DOT has urged motorists to stay informed about the opening timing through their social channels to ensure the safety of work crews, motorists, and pedestrians. The collaboration and patience of the City of Alpharetta, local law enforcement, and the community have been acknowledged and appreciated by Georgia DOT throughout the construction process.

The Kimball Bridge Road bridge project is part of the broader SR 400 Bridge Replacements initiative, which includes the replacement and widening of the Pitts Road and Roberts Drive bridges in Sandy Springs. These infrastructure upgrades are being done to accommodate the future express lanes along SR 400, with the new structures featuring modern amenities like multiuse paths and sidewalks.

Overall project completion for the SR 400 Bridge Replacements, including the Kimball Bridge Road bridge, is expected in the second quarter of 2024. More information on the project can be accessed at https://bit.ly/4b15q6c.
